Zamia

These blooming Zamia's were growing behind the Forest Heritage Centre in Dwellingup where I give guest lectures to the students of the school of fine wood. The school is in the middle of the woods and it was a sunny spring day. So I made a long walk during lunch break yesterday. The needles of the Zamia palm are a bit prickly but the fruits are wonderful, I am planning to check them regularly to see them changing.

Sand dollar

I am not sure if this still is a sand dollar as it is quite huge but it has the same kind of pattern. It must be related to the sea urchins though... I've found this one along the coast of the Indian Ocean.

Ornamental peach

This tropical picture is in my garden were the previous owners once planted an ornamental peach under the palm tree of the neighbors. I've never understood the 'ornamental' fruit trees, why not the real thing? But the flowers are stunning!

Bird of Paradise

It's not really difficult to see why these magnificent flowers are called "Bird of Paradise". It took a while before the plant took off as I've planted it four years ago and since last year I get flowers, every year one more.

Petit

Don't know what it is, only remember this flower smells awasome!

Pelicans

Pelicans at Cottesloe beach in Autumn. I am always intriged by their big yellow eyes and of course their enormous beaks.

Ibis

Lots of these weird looking birds who often look like their heads were on fire once and only black coal is left are walking around the lake.

Rhino at Perth Zoo

I took this picture at Perth Zoo in the summer and as I prefer animals in the wild I got rid of the background which showed the poles of it's fairly large enclosement and some ugly colorbond buildings.

Weeping bottlebrush

It's a lovely spring morning and the weeping bottlebrush is blooming like mad so I took this photo in our garden. I didn't prune it so it becomes more shrubby instead of growing into a nice tree because the previous owners planted it under the lemon tree... That it is still spring you can only see because of the bare mulberry tree, though it is starting to get green tips very soon!

Fairy Penguins

This was in Perth zoo end of summer. Fairy penguins having fun diving after each other in the green water, look at the air bubbles coming out of it's beak.

Reptiles

This tiny lizard was laying half dead in my garden, but after I've hold it in the warm sun for a few minutes it started coming back to live. There are heaps of those little guys sprinting over the limestones hiding in dark corners or behind leaves.
And this bobtail crossed our path last time in Bold Park, although he has quite a pointy tail, this one...

Banksia Pod

Banksia pods are weird looking cones with little 'mouths' for seeds. Some of them have heaps of 'mouths' while others have almost none. This one was very popular with the lorikeets who love the seeds.

Raindrops

So far we had the same amount of rain we had last year in total but still 150mm short of the average amount Western Australia normally gets and needs. Hope we will get it the coming three months!

Yellow Tailflower

These beauties were growing in Yanchep National Park a few weeks back and are called Yellow Tailflowers.
